Levy County Jail Roster Overview

The Levy County Sheriff's Office runs the county's only jail, the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson. Its public roster runs on JailTracker, hosted on the public-safety-cloud platform and linked from the sheriff's Detention Bureau page. The roster is free, needs no account, and is built around a name search. The sheriff's office never published a refresh interval, so a new booking appears once intake data is entered, not on a fixed timer.

The county roster has limits. It does not show felons already sentenced to state prison, who move to the Florida Department of Corrections system. It does not show federal inmates or people in immigration custody, who appear in the Bureau of Prisons and ICE locators. A released person may also leave the public view, since the sheriff's office did not state how long released records stay listed.

How to Use the Levy County Inmate Roster

You only need a name to begin. A booking date or middle name helps when several people match. Start at the sheriff's Detention Bureau page or go straight to the roster.

1. Open the Levy County JailTracker roster.
2. Let the roster load, then type the inmate's last name in the search box.
3. Narrow the results with first name, middle name, or booking date.
4. Open the record to read the charges, bond, court time, and any holds.

If the roster app does not load in a basic browser, try again in a full browser. The platform sometimes shows a loading shell in lightweight tools, and a verification step may appear before the grid loads.

Levy County Roster Search Fields

The roster filters a name grid rather than a long form. Last name, first name, and middle name are the searchable columns. Book date and release date appear as display columns. Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates

Match the system to the custody type. The county roster covers pretrial detainees and short local sentences. Sentenced felons move to the Florida Department of Corrections, which excludes county jail and county probation from its database. Federal inmates use the Bureau of Prisons locator, and immigration detainees use the ICE locator. A hold shown on the county roster does not mean a person is in ICE custody; it may mean the jail is holding the person pending another agency.

When the Levy County Roster Does Not Find Someone

A blank result does not always mean the person is free. Several things can keep a name off the public roster. The booking may be too recent to show, since the data appears only after intake is entered. The person may already be released, and the sheriff's office never said how long released records stay listed. The person may have been transferred to state prison, or held in a federal or immigration system the county roster does not cover. A facility setting can also hide an image or charge field on a given record.

Common Levy County Jail Record Terms

Jail records use words that are easy to misread. The short glossary below defines the terms that come up most often on a Levy booking record.

Jacket

The jail's person identifier tied to an inmate, separate from a single arrest.

Arrest number

The internal number JailTracker uses to load a booking profile.

No-bond hold

A custody status where paying the ordinary bond does not release the person.

Detainer

A hold placed by another agency asking the jail to keep the person in custody.

First appearance

The first court hearing after arrest, required within 24 hours under Florida rules.

Levy County Jail Facility

Levy County has one active detention facility. There is no separate work-release annex, city jail roster, or state prison in the county. The Detention Bureau holds the entire local inmate population, and its own page covers visitation, lookup, and contact in full.

Booking Process in Levy County

An arrest in Levy County may come from the sheriff's office or a city police department such as Cedar Key, Chiefland, or Williston. If local custody is needed, the person is taken to the Levy County Detention Bureau. Intake creates an arrest-number record and logs the agency, name, and booking date and time. Standard intake includes identity confirmation, a security search, fingerprints and a photo, a medical screening, and classification. The sheriff's office says licensed medical staff work the jail's medical facility ten hours a day, seven days a week, with outside physician services under monthly contract.

The court clock starts fast. Under Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.130, a person not already released must see a judge within 24 hours. That first appearance is where probable cause, release conditions, and bond are reviewed. Roster charges entered at booking are arrest charges and can change once the prosecutor decides what to file.

After the first appearance, custody moves in one of a few directions. A person may post bond and be released, stay in custody if a hold or no-bond order applies, or remain pending trial. If the case ends in a state prison sentence, the person leaves the county jail for the Florida Department of Corrections after intake and classification. The roster's release date field may populate at that point, though a hold can still block release even when a bond is otherwise handled.

Visitation Hours and Rules

Visits at the Levy County Detention Bureau are remote only. The sheriff's office states remote visits are the only visits allowed at this time and for the foreseeable future, scheduled through the jail's SmartJailMail and SmartInmate service. Any internet-connected device can be used. Each visit runs 15 or 30 minutes, and all visits are recorded and monitored.

How to Contact a Levy County Inmate

Mail at this jail runs through a scanning vendor. Regular inmate mail, including letters, cards, and postcards, goes to the Smart Communications MailGuard address in Pinellas Park, where it is scanned and made available on facility kiosks. The inmate name and jacket or ID number must be printed clearly on the outside. Legal mail, court documents, bank statements, and publications are different. Those go to the Levy County Detention Bureau PO Box in Bronson rather than the scanning center.

For phone, messaging, and video visits, the jail uses SmartInmate and SmartJailMail. After release, a person can log in there with an inmate number to download photos, messages, and mail at no charge, though they cannot reply or open request forms through the release app. To file a public records request for a booking record not online, the sheriff's office uses its NextRequest public-records portal.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Money for an inmate's trust or commissary account is handled through Access Corrections, linked by the sheriff's office from the Detention Bureau page. SmartInmate also offers trust deposits alongside phone and messaging service. The sheriff's office did not publish a deposit fee table, order limits, or a tablet program, so confirm current fees with the vendor before you send money.
